Rush Basketry workshop hosted by Oxfordshire Basketmakers and led by Katrina Green, at Mill Street Arts
In this workshop you will explore the strength and versatility of English bulrush and make either placemats or a round bread basket. During the workshop you will learn a selection of rush weaving techniques and be guided to make your projects to your own design. Techniques include different starters (check weave, spider and windmill) and different weaves (pairing, chain pairing and waling) as well as using a forma and adding a border.
The varied techniques you learn can be carried forward after the workshop and are applicable to any soft plant fibre weaving - materials such as yellow flag iris, cattails, daffodil stems offer different colours and textures.
This workshop is suitable for beginners or intermediate rush weavers interested in this design.
